Faculty of Vietnamese studies and language is one of the oldest faculties of USSH, VNU Hanoi, with excellent reputation in researching and training human resources in Vietnamese studies. The Faculty is tasked with training high-quality human resources and promoting the interest in Vietnamese studies and language, contributing to strengthening relations and exchanges between Vietnam and other countries worldwide.

History

  • In 1956, the Vietnamese language Section of Hanoi General University was founded with the task of training Vietnamese language and culture for foreign learners according to the agreement between the Vietnamese government and other countries.

  • In 1968, the Faculty of Vietnamese language, Hanoi General University, was formed.

  • In 1995, the Faculty of Vietnamese language's name was changed to Faculty of Vietnamese language and culture for foreigners.

  • In 1999, the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training signed decision no 826/QĐ-BGD&ĐT-ĐH, permitting the Faculty to launch the bachelor's program on Vietnamese language and culture.

  • In 2008, VNU Hanoi concluded the decision to launch the program of Vietnamese studies including two majors: Vietnamese studies for Vietnamese and Vietnamese studies for foreigners.

  • In 2008: VNU Hanoi concluded the decision to change the Faculty's name to Faculty of Vietnamese studies and language.

Prominent achievements

For the last 50 years, the Faculty of Vietnamese studies and language has trained around 9000 foreign students and interns, 15 of whom became Ambassadors of such countries as China, Cuba, Romania, Mongolia, the UK and France to Vietnam. The Faculty also regularly sends its lecturers to teach and participate in exchanges at universities and research institutes in various countries in the world.  Since receiving its mission of training bachelors of Vietnamese studies, the Faculty has trained 4 batches of both domestic and foreign bachelors of Vietnamese studies, and granted bachelor's degrees for 210 Vietnamese students. 98% of its graduates have been able to find jobs. 

Development orientations

  • Extend the fields of teaching and studying Vietnamese studies based on the inter-disciplinary approach and area studies.

  • Consolidate and modernize the traditional fields.

  • Strengthen the internationalized activities, from international cooperation to publication.

  • Develop some new majors that combine both research and training.
