Solid steps in training affairs

One of the most notable achievements of USSH last term was the Strategy for Planning training programs and majors in the period of 2014 – 2020 under the guidance of VNU. Accordingly, until 2020, USSH will have more than 38 master's programs and 32 doctoral programs. The University will add 02 more doctoral programs in Religious Studies and Library and Information, and 06 master's programs in Vietnamese Cultural History, Vietnamese Studies, Public Policy, Human Resources Management, Office Management and Clinical Psychology.

In quality accreditation, the university successfully finished its assessment of the bachelor's program in Linguistics according to the standards set by ASEAN University Network.

In postgraduate training, the number of doctors increased by 236%. By maintaining the current scale of undergraduate training, enlarging that of postgraduate training, and consolidating the research-training linkage, the University is realizing its goal of becoming a research-based University.

Research papers increased and research capability upgraded

In the year 2013 – 2014, the number of research papers increased with 14 papers at State level, 17 papers sponsored by NAFOSTED, 3 papers at City Level and various others at University and VNU levels. USSH not only kept its first position in researching sustainable development in Northwest Vietnam, but also launched a new program at VNU level titled “Assessing the current situation and suggesting solutions for social sciences and humanities to promote modernization and industrialization”.

To contribute to the realization of a research-based university, USSH devised policies and solutions to encourage research activities among its staff , especially international publishing. The number of internationally published articles doubled that of the previous years. There were 42 articles, including 06 published in journals recognized in the ISI or Scopus database. There were 03 papers nominated for prominent awards at VNU level, 01 nominated great paper by young researchers at VNU, and 02 strong research groups at VNU level.

The conference for young scholars and postgraduates in the year 2013 – 2014 was successfully organized with over 70 papers, becoming another great achievement of USSH. It was where young researchers inside and outside USSH exchanged their findings, academic and research experiences, and facilitated a network among them.

Number of international partners reached 200

International cooperation was extended and improved by signing and expanding 20 memoranda of understanding (MOU) with prestigious foreign partners such as Inha University (Korea), Glasgow University (UK), and Adelaide University. The number of MOUs rose to 200. This provided more international programs and research projects collaborated by large universities, which helped  advance USSH’s development resources and international status.

International co-formed majors such as Developmental Psychology for Children and Adolescents, Public and Business Policy Management were developed and increasingly attracted students.

Last August, the Taiwan Education Center was established by USSH and Wenzao Univeristy (Taiwan) with the aim of training Chinese language, holding Chinese language tests, specialized workshops and Vietnam – Taiwan cultural exchanges, etc. This event confirmed the international position and prestige of USSH and its diversification of international cooperation.
