The first National History Conference was successfully held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU.

The conference with the theme "Research on national territorial sovereignty in the direction of a comprehensive and holistic approach to Vietnamese history" was jointly organized by the Vietnam Historical Science Association, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, and the University of Education - Danang University on June 15, 2024 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The issue of history has received the attention of many scientists and managers nationwide.
The conference was attended by representatives of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Central Propaganda Department, the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Commander of the Vietnam People's Navy, the National Border Committee - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Coast Guard Command...
On the side of training and research units, there were representatives of the leaders of Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Hanoi Institute for Socio-Economic Development Studies, Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, University of Education - Danang University... along with many scientists, lecturers and students.
The conference also attracted the participation of many press agencies and interested people.
Independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity are extremely sacred, having the meaning of survival for every nation - every people. Having gone through thousands of years of ups and downs in the process of building, preserving and developing the country; the communities of residents living in Vietnam today understand and appreciate the value of independence, peace, national unity and territorial integrity. In recent years, the regional and world situation has had many complicated developments, including territorial disputes, with potential risks of conflict and instability. Therefore, actively researching to provide solid scientific arguments and propose practical solutions is increasingly meaningful as an important measure to contribute to protecting national sovereignty and territory.
Recalling Professor - People's Teacher Phan Huy Le - Chairman of the Vietnam Historical Science Association with the launching of the national historians to promote research on Vietnam's national territorial sovereignty and territorial waters exactly 10 years ago (April 2014), Professor Hoang Anh Tuan said that in the past 10 years, this topic has been focused on by the national historians and has achieved many outstanding achievements.
The first National Historical Conference was held to summarize the achievements of 10 studies on national territorial sovereignty according to the comprehensive approach of Vietnamese history, contributing to serving the strategies of building and protecting the country in the new context.
In his report to introduce the Conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Duc Cuong - President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association emphasized: Together with social science researchers nationwide, historians have always thoroughly grasped their professional mission of contributing to research to clarify fundamental issues of Vietnamese History in all fields of economics, politics, culture, society, national defense, security, from which to draw useful lessons, historical legacies that need to be inherited to contribute to planning the country's development policies in the present and building projects for the future.
The first National Historical Painting Conference is a forum for academic exchange for researchers, scholars and experts in the field of history and a number of other fields such as law, culture, national defense, security, foreign affairs and research results in recent times; exchange of documents collected in the country and some countries in the world, exchange of approaches and in-depth analysis of arguments to affirm and protect the country's national sovereignty. This is also an opportunity to promote connection and cooperation between historical research and teaching units and propaganda work on Vietnam's national sovereignty at home and abroad.
Important contribution to the study of national territorial sovereignty in the direction of a comprehensive and holistic approach to Vietnamese history.
Concluding the thematic discussion session with the topic "Some general issues on territorial sovereignty and land borders", Associate Professor, Dr. Tong Trung Tin - Chairman of the Vietnam Archaeological Association said that the subcommittee received 74 summary reports, 65 full-text reports; 10 reports presented at the conference. The discussion session had comprehensive content, covering all issues of territorial sovereignty and land borders, such as the birth and boundaries of early states (Van Lang, Au Lac) and the Phu Nam state, Vietnam's territorial issues through many periods (Dai Ngu, Dai Viet, Democratic Republic of Vietnam, ...), territorial sovereignty related to international issues (East Asia, globalization) ...
At this thematic session, scientists made many recommendations, including the recommendation that relevant agencies should organize one or more research topics on comprehensive and complete Vietnam's territorial sovereignty; there should be a research program on Vietnam - Cambodia sovereignty; actively contribute to the propaganda to protect national border sovereignty.
In the thematic discussion session with the theme "East Sea - living space of communities living in Vietnam", Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Former Vice President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vice Chairman of the National Heritage Council highly appreciated the highlights of the presentations that demonstrated interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary thinking, with the participation of many majors: history, archaeology, anthropology, ethnology...
The subcommittee received 48 presentations, covering prehistoric, early historical, historical, ancient to modern times; research on 3 sea spaces of North-Central-South... The presentations affirmed that the East Sea is a living space of ethnic communities in Vietnam. Cultures deeply express the marine element, vividly demonstrating the vitality of ethnic communities in Vietnam.
The presentations show that the marine tradition is an important factor throughout the history of building and defending the country. The early communities had awareness of the sea, exploited the sea, established and protected sovereignty at sea, demonstrating the spirit and intelligence of the Vietnamese people.
The thematic discussion session with the topic "Vietnam's sovereignty over the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa - Truong Sa" received 42 presentations, focusing on the following issues: Providing new documents on Truong Sa - Hoang Sa such as: legal basis on sovereignty, state policies, activities and methods of fighting to protect sovereignty over Truong Sa - Hoang Sa, history of protecting sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.
Summing up the discussion session, Associate Professor, Dr. Do Bang - Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association emphasized that with 07 presentations, new documents were presented, increasing the legal basis on the issue of protecting sovereignty over seas and islands; affirming that Vietnam's sovereignty over Truong Sa - Hoang Sa is continuous.
Scientists recommended that it is necessary to internationalize research results as well as include some research contents in the general education program on seas and islands, and to organize periodic seminars and conferences on seas and islands as well as the 220th anniversary of King Gia Long sending troops to Hoang Sa to establish sovereignty over Hoang Sa (in 2026).
Summarizing the content of the First National Historical Conference, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Ngoc - Former Head of the History Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU; Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association shared that the First National Historical Conference received 164 presentations, with 02 plenary and summary sessions, 03 subcommittees discussing specialized topics. The conference took place scientifically and urgently, summarizing research achievements in 10 years (2014-2024) and suggesting many research directions in the past time.
The Organizing Committee summarized 12 important contents in the Summary Report of the First National Historical Conference . After the conference, the authors continued to research, supplement, edit and complete the full-text reports so that we could edit and publish the official proceedings with high professional quality. 
The first National Historical Conference was held to summarize the achievements of research on national territorial sovereignty according to the comprehensive and holistic approach of Vietnamese history, contributing to the strategies of building and protecting the country in the new context. The organization of the first National Historical Conference will open up a practice of periodically rotating the organization with different topics, at major historical training and research institutions nationwide, meeting the requirements of science and Vietnamese social practice.
