VNU-USSH strengthens cooperation with leading universities and research institutions in Taiwan (China)

From May 19 to 25, 2024, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU) led a delegation of the University to visit and work with a number of leading universities and research institutes in Taiwan (China) at the invitation of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam and the Ministry of Education of Taiwan.
Also participating in the working trip were Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Hong Son (Deputy Head of the Department of History, Director of the Museum of Anthropology), Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Hien (Deputy Head of the Department of Literature, Director of the Center for Chinese Studies), Dr. Trinh Van Dinh (Head of the Department of Scientific Research Management) and Dr. Vu Minh Hai (specialist of the Department of Cooperation and Development).
Within the framework of the working trip, the VNU-USSH delegation had the opportunity to visit and discuss academic research programs, student and lecturer exchanges between the University and leading universities and research institutes in Taiwan such as: National Taiwan University, Taiwan Normal University, National Cheng Kung University, National Cheng Kung University, Taichung University of Science and Technology, National Taiwan Library, Institute of History and Philosophy of the Central Institute of Taiwan (SINICA).
VNU-USSH enhances academic exchanges and scientific research with leading universities in Taiwan
At the meeting with Taiwan Normal University, the two sides agreed to discuss and sign a framework cooperation agreement between the two schools as soon as possible and promote exchange programs for students and lecturers. In the field of academic cooperation, in addition to aiming to coordinate in scientific publications of lecturers in the scientific journals of the two schools, in the immediate future, the two schools will coordinate to organize an international scientific conference on Chinese culture, history and literature in November 2024.

On the same afternoon, at a working session with National Taiwan University (NTU). Ms. Yuan Hsiao-Wei, Vice President in charge of international cooperation, said: NTU has long had a good relationship and has signed a cooperation agreement with Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Therefore, NTU wishes to strengthen the cooperative relationship with member schools of VNU. During the working session, Vice President Yuan Hsiao-Wei and President Hoang Anh Tuan discussed many cooperation possibilities in student and lecturer exchange programs, scholarship awards and scientific research. The two sides agreed that in the coming time, VNU-USSH will sign a cooperation agreement with NTU's Literature Academy as a legal basis for specific cooperation programs.

At the meeting with Taiwan University of Political Science (May 22), the leaders of the two universities affirmed their desire to further promote the relationship established since 2013, not only in the field of academic exchange but also promoting student and lecturer exchanges and especially cooperation in the field of Vietnamese language training of the Vietnamese Language Department in Taiwan.

On May 23, during a working session with Taichung University of Science and Technology in Taichung City, representatives of the two universities signed an agreement to cooperate in organizing a Vietnamese proficiency test for Vietnamese students at Taichung University of Science and Technology. In addition, Taichung University of Science and Technology said that in 2024, it will continue to send 05 students to study Vietnamese for a short period of 01 month.

During the working trip to Taiwan, the VNU-USSH delegation also received a warm welcome from representatives of the Ministry of Education of Taiwan. At the meeting, Ms. Chen Yu-Wen, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, said that the number of Vietnamese students studying in Taiwan is currently very large and the need for cooperation between universities in Vietnam and Taiwan is increasing. Principal Prof. Hoang Anh Tuan also expressed his hope that the Ministry of Education of Taiwan will be a bridge for VNU-USSH to expand educational cooperation with leading universities in Taiwan, especially enhancing exchanges between students, staff and young lecturers to study and improve their qualifications.

In addition to visiting and working with universities, the VNU-USSU delegation had many working sessions with specialized agencies: the Institute of History and Philosophy under the Central Institute of Taiwan (SINICA), the National Library of Taiwan, etc. During the meetings, representatives of the two sides discussed specific cooperation programs, shared documents and scientific research results related to Vietnam to enrich the Vietnamese research archive, and cooperated in research in the fields of history, archaeology, and philosophy.

During the meeting with representatives of the National Library of Taiwan, the two sides discussed the initial achievements in the cooperation in translating and publishing the poetry collection "Cong Thao Vien Tap" by Quang Trach Quan Cong Nguyen Phuc Mien Cu (1829 - 1854) - the 47th prince of King Minh Mang. There is currently only one copy of the poetry manuscript of Prince Nguyen Phuc Mien Cu, which is being kept at the National Library of Taiwan. The University has assigned the implementation of this project to the Department of Han Nom under the Faculty of Literature, and it is expected that the poetry collection will be published by the end of this year. Based on the results of the first translation project, the two sides will continue to cooperate in many other aspects such as exchanging cultural documents about Vietnam and organizing valuable book exhibitions at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Attend scientific conference at Thanh Cong University
From May 23 to 25, the delegation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities attended the International Conference on the topic "Inter-regional and Harmony - Cultural Discussion from an East Asian Perspective" at Thanh Cong University. This is an academic activity within the framework of the first Scientific Forum between four universities including Taiwan University, Thanh Cong University, Dong Hwa University and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU) to promote academic exchanges in the field of social sciences and humanities between Vietnam and Taiwan. At the first Forum, the leaders of the four units agreed with the proposal of President Hoang Anh Tuan to host the second Four-School Scientific Forum at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in October 2025 in Hanoi, towards the celebration of the 80th anniversary of tradition and 30th anniversary of the school's founding. Also within the framework of the Forum, representatives of the professional units of the four schools signed an agreement to take turns organizing the Forum as well as promoting academic exchanges between the parties.
